One of the mornings when I woke up early only to find this magical sight of brash ice and the ocean breathing 🤩.

Needless to say, it was cold 🥶 and the chillness was exhilarating. Every breath felt crisp and pure, a reminder of just how remote and untouched this place is. The brash ice danced on the surface, creating a symphony.

Moments like these are what make Antarctica so special – a place where you experience nature at its finest supreme and every second feels like a gift.

#Antarctica is far to reach involving many hours of travel, including many modes of transport. But what makes it special?

#DYK Lemaire Channel is one of the most visited and photographed spots in #Antarctica.

#LemaireChannel is a narrow passage in between towering cliffs and majestic icebergs in Antarctica! It is famously called the “Kodak Gap” for its stunning, picture-perfect scenery! 📸❄️ It is a breathtaking passage that leaves everyone in total awe.

Its narrowness and the towering icebergs make it feel like you’re sailing through a frozen wonderland. 🌊🗻 The channel is known for its mirror-like waters that perfectly reflect the surrounding mountains, creating a surreal and magical experience.

The narrow passage also has quite unpredictable ice conditions because when we crossed the frost time - it was clear but when we tried to go further south, ice bergs on the same blocked the passage from passing.

Usually when conditions are clear, a watch party happens when everyone stands out while the ship sails though this icy passage offering an unforgettable glimpse into the pristine wilderness of our planet’s southernmost continent. 🌍✨

These floating giants can be up to 4 km thick, infact they can be as big as a small country making them massive, ancient formations of frozen water!

They can drift for years, even decades, traveling thousands of miles from their birthplace in the Antarctic ice shelves.

The striking blue color of icebergs is due to the dense ice absorbing all other colors of the spectrum, leaving only blue to be reflected.

Ice bergs play a crucial role in regulating ocean currents and global climate. Their melting helps distribute cold, fresh water across the oceans.

Next time you see an iceberg, remember you're looking at a piece of ancient history, with some ice being over 10,000 years old!

They are thousands and thousands of years old and few of them so big that even a wide angle lens wont fit them completely.

Chillin’ like a villain 🦭❄️

Leopard Seals are one of #Antarctica’s top predators.

These seals are mostly seen on their own, lounging on ice (like in the video) or diving into the water to chase its prey. Generally, they hunt alone and are never seen with more than one or two other #seals.

They feast on a variety of prey from krill to penguins and other seals unlike other members of the seal family.

The only natural predator of the Leopard Seal is Orca or killer whales and to watch them go about their plan and strategy to attack on the seals is nothing short of a blockbuster movie.
